Louise Aubery is a student at Sciences Po (Political Sciences Institute), she is also an influencer, a podcaster and an entrepreneur. A few months ago, she launched an initiative on Instagram, showing that we could all have an impact at our own level and even small actions could resonate a long way. She published a picture of herself wearing tampons as a crown and throwing dollars all around her. Every repost would generate a box of hygienic pads offered to the non-governmental organization ADSF (‘Agir Pour la Santé des Femmes’ translated by ‘Act for the Health of Women’) involved in supporting isolated women.
There were thousands of reposts, and it participated greatly in raising awareness to the cost of periods for half the population and especially what it involves for the ones facing precariousness.
On her instagram account @mybetterself, she takes us into her fight for self acceptance for all. She has over 450k followers on instagram and 200k on Youtube where she not only promotes the movements Body Positive and Body Neutrality (considering your body as useful and not necessarily aesthetic first) but launched a hashtag #OnVeutDuVrai (‘We want some real’). She also talks about entrepreneurship and took a year off her studies to fully commit to her project.
‘Je ne sais quoi’ is her newly launched ethical brand of underwear promoting sizes for everybody, that are comfortable for women above all else, having no impact on the environment nor exploiting workers. Find out more about how her brand is involved in minimizing its impact (French website, sorry for the non-speaking) : https://jenesaisquoiofficiel.fr/pages/ethique.
The fast fashion industry is recognized as the second most harmful industry for the planet, and usually involves poor working conditions for mass production. She has declared that it was a true challenge to create a brand without being accompanied by a large Group, like most content creators launching their brand.
For many women today, it has become difficult finding underwear at affordable costs, fitting size, tastes and desires. Most models are wearing XS in European sizes and with Corona hitting, online sales have multiplied. Yet the online photos rarely fit most women’ shapes and sizes, making it arduous figuring out one’s size in each different brand. Not speaking of the environmental and social impact, that should be taken into consideration. We are facing a climate urgency and are aware of the working conditions some brands are not ashamed to use at their benefit. Therefore, Louise Aubery has developed her brand by using only recycled fabric, creating Made In France environmentally friendly products.
So let yourself be inspired by this strong woman that is sending body positive messages and overcoming every obstacle to promote feminism and respect the environment in the process.
